OUCH! Pants fit a bit snug…Blouse gaps open? You may need to shed a few pounds. 5 Steps to Weight Loss Success!

January 3, 2011

Happy New Year to all my ”Its Melting Off ” friends!

It’s a new year and time to “out with the old” bad habits and in with a slimmer, sexier you!

You know what I’m talking about.  You hate it when I go here, but I have to say… It’s TIME

It’s time to put down that bowl of cream and get on track for a happier healthier you!

You may be in denial or just not ready to make that leap of faith, that you CAN lose weight and regain your health.  Let me share this with you… You can do what ever you set your mind to. Great accomplishments in history all began with an idea and a positive mental attitude. If you think you can you are half-way there.

Want it bad enough?  Your burning desire and focus will get you another third of the way.

Have the right tools and it’s a done deal.

So what are the right tools for you?

5 Steps to Weight Loss Success

  • Start by surrounding yourself with like-minded people who want to get healthy.
  • Write down your long-term goal – and then break it down each day by the hour. Remember you didn’t get in this horrible shape over night it took you years of bad eating habits.
  • The most important is to find a program that you can and will adhere to. I have used many different programs in my life time and by far the most effective is Take Shape for Life. Do what works for you and keep doing it until you hit your goal.
  • Get a coach, pal up with a friend, join a group… stay connected. This will help you stay on track, keep your focus and be accountable.
  • Lastly – Enjoy the journey. If you slip up don’t beat yourself up. Dust off and get back on your program.

Happy New You!

The Many Disguises of “HUNGER”! Tired – Angry or Bored Out Of Your Mind? I’m here to help with “6 Vital Signs” you must check BEFORE cleaning out the frig.

November 15, 2010

How many countless times in my life have I opened the frig and eyed every shelf  looking for that “something” to eat?  Only to end up going from the frig to the cupboard – to the pantry… still not sure what I wanted –  but hopeful,  that if I started at the top and worked my way down… EVENTUALLY I would satisfy the urge to eat!

Is this what we call the “crazies” or what!?!

When this urge strikes STOP and ask yourself  these 6 vital questions:

1. Am I thirsty?

2. Am I tired?

3. Am I stressed?

4. Am I angry?

5. Am I bored?

6. Am I REALLY hungry?

Ask yourself these 6 questions BEFORE you plough into the frig and eat your way into misery.

So many times we get signals from our brains that we mistake for hunger, when all we need to do is drink some water.  Water is important not only in the hot Summer months but also in the coming Winter months when we live more indoors and often skip fluids.

Next – if you are stressed and not sleeping well at night this is another of those mixed signals we can easily confuse for hunger. So think back to this morning — did you wake up fresh from a good nights sleep? If you got to bed late, tossed and turned or worse laid there not able to turn off you brain from the days projects, you could run into a snag from just the lack of good sound sleep.

My best advice is:  EAT an APPLE!

If you’re truly hungry, an apple is a good choice to snack on.  If an apple doesn’t sound good… more than likely you’re NOT hungry and you need to go back to the 6 questions above and see where you really are.

Here’s to your health and longevity!

Is Fear & Your Weight Issues Holding You Back From the Life You Are Destine To Live?

July 26, 2010

WE ARE ALL BORN WITH ONE FEAR…being dropped as an infant.  All the other fears we have as adults are learned along the way as a product of our growing up and experiences.

I met a young woman just this month who was afraid if she lost weight her friends would leave her and she would be alone.  For some of you reading this you may be saying… that’s terrible – if they were true friends they’d stick by your side no matter what. But for many individuals, who have lost friends because they moved away, passed away or drifted down another path… no matter what, this is how they feel and as a result would rather be unhealthy and miserable than friendless.

Another gal I recently had the pleasure of meeting, who’s terrific… is fearful that by stating another “diet plan” will result in that all too familiar yo-yo syndrome we’ve all experienced. So rather than taking a step towards a healthy life style… this reasoning is another way for her to stay frozen in time, overweight, unhealthy and unhappy.

I had my own fears. I was destine to be overweight!  In my mind I had convinced myself that no matter what others did – they were not me. They were the lucky ones that found success and could grab on to the golden ring of health. No me… I was not one of the lucky ones.

I just could not see myself as thin. I was the pretty face, the smart one, the one that could light up a room and be the life of the party… and the one who would always be “heavy”.  I believed this. It was my reality and my prison. My lot in life and I lived with it the best I could for 40 plus years. I created a false reality for myself and was not able to see that I could change.

That is until… I got it!  The “IT” we are all looking for!  That ONE THING that turns your life on a dime… It’s not surgery or pills. It’s definitely not starvation or a cabbage diet that stinks up the house!

The “IT” I found was a gift from a dear friend of mine who to me had always been a thin guy. Someone you shrugged off as being out of touch with what being fat was all about.  What do skinny people know about living in a fat body? They don’t!  They have no stinking idea of the shame and humiliation we drag along with us every place we go… day-in and day-out.  So as a fat person with my own set of beliefs I blew him off.  Several times… until I got cornered and with the look of a desperate animal in the headlights of an oncoming car I asked; “What is the minimum time commitment I have to give you”? And the reply was: 5 weeks! “God Help Me” was my first reaction and guess what… He already had!

OK — I made up my mind… I can do ANYTHING for 5 weeks, even a new “diet”… Little did I know this was no ordinary diet! IT is a way of LIFE. The best gift anyone could have presented me with.  The Gift of Health.

For Five Weeks…

  • I never went hungry.
  • I was not a grouch.
  • I had tons of energy.

After three weeks I was ready for more… in 18 weeks I hit my goal and lost 40 pounds

For a total of 100 pounds!

Today I don’t see myself as the one who’s overweight… I see myself as healthy and living in a thin body that’s full of energy and vitality.

I love my new life, my new friends who are living a healthy life, and best of all I love myself.

What are you afraid of?

Are you more concerned with what other people think of you… Really it’s none of your business what they think.

What you think of yourself is all that really matters.

How do you feel about yourself right now?

Are you ready to make a life long commitment to your own health?

If you are ready for a happier, healthy life…I can help you.  I’ve lost over 100 pounds and kept it off.  I know your struggles and fears. I have fought them and won. My clients LOVE working with me because I have been in their shoes and understand the challenges they face.  I educate them and show them how to eat smart and make good choices so their day to day choices… become Habits of Health.

Stuck looking at the same 5lbs 50lbs or 100lbs? 3 Tips To Break the Cycle & Lose Weight

June 6, 2010

If you are sick of seeing the same weight on the scale I am going to share with you this week three ways to break the cycle and lose those unwanted pounds once and for all.

Tip #1: Change it up!  You are probably doing the same thing week after week and getting the same results.  OK I know what I’m talking about.  I was stuck in the same nine pounds for a year and a half. Yes 18 months… and I was frustrated and angry with myself.

This can be a way to sabotage yourself or even allow other to take control of how you manage your day and the ways you eat.

I though my eating was good and I was getting enough exercise. But guess what?  I was kidding myself.  By the time I realized that I was stuck in this vortex of 9 pounds – I just could not get back on track.  I tried this and that. My resolve stunk. And I frankly was sick and tired of eating the same foods day in and day out. Enough already! At some point you just get sick of yourself and I was there. Ready to make that “change“.  102 pounds slimmer I thank God every day I took the first step to getting my life and my health back.

CHANGE IS GROWTH

and in this case…  CHANGE is SUCCESS & GOOD HEALTH

What do you change?  Well there are those of you who will do just about anything. And I mean anything.  Let’s not go overboard however; I’m talking about a jump start not surgery or diet pills. Let’s look at three areas that a little change can add up to lots of pounds shed.

  1. How you eat.
  2. Where you eat.
  3. What you eat.

How You Eat Is Important.

Do you eat slow or fast?  Studies show it takes our brain 20 minutes to know we are eating and full. I know from my past I could shovel in two or three times the amount of food by body needed in 20 minutes… By the time by brain caught up with my stomach, I felt stuffed – way over stuffed. By then I had conditioned myself to know that over stuffed feeling, and the only way I knew to stop eating was when I was miserably full.

Start by: Setting your fork down between bites and chew your food.

This will allow your brain to know when you’re full and all that chewing will help in your digestion.

Where You Eat Is Important.

Do you eat in the car, in front of the TV or standing up? Bad habits….these need to be changed – and right now!

Meals are not meant to be eaten in your car. That can be dangerous and not satisfying. Oh it get’s you by but it’s not quality and that’s what we are striving for with the changes that need to be made.

If you are hungry and need something to tie you over, I suggest keeping a few almonds in your car and a bottle of water OR a 110 calorie bar that contains no more than 13 grams (g) of carbohydrates and less than 3 sugars so your insulin doesn’t spike, and less then 4 g of total fat.  Bars should also have at a minimum 10 g of protein so you won’t get hungry right away.

If you’re eating and watching TV by the time the commercial comes along your meal is half done or finished and you miss the satisfaction of the meal.

Eating for most of us is more than nourishing our bodies.  We eat for just about every occasion and even make a few up along the way.  Look at what you’re putting in your mouth. Smell the aroma of your food. Allow your mouth to enjoy and identify the flavors.  If you driving, watching TV, or gulping food down standing at the kitchen sink so you can bolt out the door to work you’ve miss the experience. Most likely you wont feel satisfied and those food cravings will haunt your for hours if not all day.

The best place to eat a meal is at the table. Set a place mat down and make it an enjoyable experience. Do this for all your meals. I even do this at work! Try it and slow down and enjoy your food.

What You Are Eating Is Critical… If you are going to drop those pounds you have to be mindful of what you are putting in your mouth and how much of it you’re eating.

If you are reaching for high calorie, fat, sugar and sodium foods you are headed for obesity. But really that’s not your BIGGEST problem… pardon the pun.  You are headed for a heart attack; stroke, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and the list go on…

TRUE OR FALSE? You are offered a slice of cheese pizza with all the toping which you gladly accept! You then order a DIET SODA to keep the calories down. Or worse a high sugar drink for lets say another 300 calories! TRUE OR FALSE? Does that sound like something you’d do?  Only you can answer this question.

I have lunch every Wednesday at a pizza parlor with a business group. It’s easy to pass on the pizza because; I CHOOSE HEALTH – not high fat foods. My desire to feel good is stronger than the allure of the pizza. If eating a quarter of a pizza every week is stronger than your desire to get healthy and lose weight then I’d ask you just how committed to your health are you?

To help in this situation before you even open the door of a restaurant know what you are going to order. Don’t get side tracked by looking at the menu and order first.

When your grocery shopping have a list made up and stick to it. Keep away from those isles you are temped by. And don’t go hungry.  When the lady offers you a taste – thank her and pass. Those tastes add up and can throw you off track.

Eat wisely and cut your portions by half.

Eat smaller portions and more often to keep your blood sugars level and keep you from being hungry.

I will be posting Tip #2 and Tip #3 later this week so please come back for more insights into good health and losing those unwanted pounds once and for all!

The 15 in 50 Day Challenge is About Setting Goals that are Realistic & Tangible.

April 3, 2010

Doing this challenge to take off 15 pound in 50 days has reignited my motivation and excitement. As you know the first two days were off the charts amazing. I took off 7.3 pounds from Monday to Wednesday morning.

Thursday and Friday – Day 4 & Day 5 I stayed the same at 152.4

This morning (Saturday) Day 6 I was up 0.4 at 152.8 which makes me dig in even deeper. I know my food plan has been spot-on all week , the scale is going to show it any day now. My rings are starting to slip around my fingers as I type, so I know I’ve taken off water weight and bloating which is very important.

As some of you know my weight loss journey started by walking into a Saturday morning 6:45AM Weight Watchers Class back in Sept of 2006.  To this day those folks are some of my best friends.  I still attend the meetings and this morning I found out I was the “voice in their heads” from last Saturday… Imagine that!  I shared with them that they need to set a goal and a deadline which is achievable and realistic. I challenged them that before they stepped out the door last Satruday morning to set a one week goal!

Something Like:  I will take-off X#of pounds between today and next Saturday!

This morning I was talking to a  good friend who is on board with me for this challenge and has taken off another 2.8 pounds on the 5 & 1 plan this week.  (BTW- Her total is 83 pounds)! I said to her I wouldn’t mind being a “Skinny (Food) Snob” … which made her think back to when she was a kid in the summertime and as her and her friends sunned by the swimming pool - they called it “blobbing”… Now she call’s it “lounging” – I like that.

This morning as my WW’ers friends announced their pounds lost over the past week -  having a goal make them more focused… I felt really happy for them.  Losing weight can be such an up hill battle especially if you have a lot to lose and been at it over a period of time. We all need to set those little goals. Even if it’s a meal at a time or a day at a time.

This morning I asked a group at WW ’ers;  Who’s going to make a committment to the 15 in 50 Challenge and join me?  We got in a circle, put our pinky fingers together and shared with each other how much we need to lose to get to the next “9″ on the scale.  We are fired up and will make it happen!

ACHIEVING YOUR SHORT TERM GOALS

IS GREAT MOTIVATION TO KEEP GOING

There is never a better time to get started than NOW!

To those who are on this journey with me congratulations. For those of your still thinking about it, that’s ok – when you’re ready to get healthy and make a lifestyle change… I’m here to cheer you on!

Happy Easter & God Bless Us All

Day #3 On the 15 in 50 Challenge… I stayed the same today.

April 1, 2010

I was hoping to see the scale go lower again this morning after another great day on program yesterday but it stayed the same at: 152.4 which is perfectly normal after losing so much in such a short period of time.

What I feel is most important is to PLAN my day before I leave the house.

Planning is vital to our success. With out a plan we would end up drifting… So here is a look at what I’ve set in motion for myself today:

  • 6:40AM TSFL Scrambled Eggs with Tlb of Casa Sanchez Salsa. Hot tea/Splenda
  • 7:45AM Business meeting at Pete’s Coffee House in Granite Bay – I mixed up a TSFL Cappuccino in a blender bottle and grabbed my coffee mug to-go.  When I got to the coffee-house I poured half the TSFL Cappuccino in my mug and had them fill up the rest with coffee. It was a great feeling to know “I was in total control”! When I got to the office I heated up the remaining TSFL Cappuccino and drank it which was around 9:15AM
  • 12:30 TSFL Vegetable Beef Soup

Still to be consumed today my plan is:

  • 2:00PM TSFL Banana Shake
  • 4:30PM TSFL Crunch Bar and Hot Tea/Splenda
  • 6:00PM I’m picking up a CostCo cooked chicken, a bag of pre made salad and taking it to my daughters for dinner. She turns 30 today and is home taking care of her sick dog, Sophia. So we are taking dinner to her. I’ll pick up a couple of potatoes for the rest of the family, pass myself on the potato.  I’ll owe Stephanie a box of my homemade Biscotti with cranberries! It may not be our ideal Birthday dinner, but as long as we are together and her dog gets better, that’s all that counts.
  • 8:00PM Hot Tea/Splenda and Fat Free Jell-O with Fat Free Cool Whip
  • I made a pitcher of Water/Wyler’s and had it drank by 1pm today. So I’m going to make a second and see how much of it I can get down before I leave for CostCo. I find that water helps me feel full and I get my exercise running to and from the ladies room! LOL

I want to give a shout out to: CA-Sue & Jon for stepping up to the 15 in 50 Challenge today!

Follow my 15 in 50 Day Challenge day-by-day or better yet, join me! What ever plan work for you just do it. Get started today, right now! Time is ticking and summer will be here before you know it and a smaller size is waiting for you…

Day #2 gave me a 2 pound loss! The 15 in 50 Day Challenge is ON & 7.3 POUNDS Are GONE

March 31, 2010

This morning the scale was good to me again with a two-pound weight loss.

So here I am …  2 days into my 50 day challenge to lose 15 pounds, and I’m just about half way to my GOAL, and still have 48 days left!

Too good to be true you say? Maybe so…

…but I’m saying to you… it’s the real deal!

This morning the scale was a joy to step on and off.

152.4

for another 2 pounds slimmer

My two-day total is 7.3 lbs

48 more days to go… (smiling as I type) and 7.7 pounds left!

(Please God, Don’t let me get to smug)!

Here is a look at my day yesterday:

Today I planned for a business lunch and business coffee. Here’s how my day stacked up:

  • 9:00AM TSFL Cappuccino & Coffee
  • 11:30AM Business Lunch Meeting at John’s Incredible Pizza Parlor — I Ate My Green Meal: A small bed of lettuce topped with broccoli, cauliflower, grated zucchini, chopped tomatoes, a couple of zesty pepper rings. I used the Olive Oil and Red Wine Vinegar as dressing – Salt/Pepper and Sugar Free Peach Ice Tea. I took a bit and set my fork down every time. I ate slowly and was full and satisfied.
  • 1:45PM TSFL Peanut Butter Crunch Bar & Wyler’s Orange (Sugar Free) Drink
  • 4:00PM Business meeting in Old Fair Oaks Coffee ShopTSFL Cinnamon pretzels and Off-Program: 20 oz Non-Fat Latti

  • 7:00PM Fat Free Jell-O and Hot Tea/Splenda
  • I also made 2 quarts of Wyler’s Orange drink which is Fat Free and Sugar Free and drank it throughout the day.
  • Before bed I’ll have a shot of NyQuil and hopefully make a dent in my cold.

The way I look at it… The scale will owe me a loss in the morning! I’ll let you know what happens… So please come back tomorrow evening for the results of Day 3.

In the mean time please send me your comment’s and e-mails at Joyce@Blonskij.com

15 in 50 Challenge – 1st day results were beyond my wildest dreams!

March 30, 2010

Let me begin by saying results may vary and that I ate my way all through Sunday before I got on the scale Monday morning to start my 15 in 50 Challenge and weighed in at 159.7  which is on the high side for me.

This morning I woke up having to hit the ‘john’ for the fourth time since going to sleep last night… I drank a lot water yesterday. I find that by  mixing a pitcher of water with a packet of Wyler’s Light Pink Lemonade or one of their flavors, it just helps get the water in.

My first day I dropped…

5.3 pounds

Starting today – day 2 at 154.4

I am very happy.

Today I again planned my day early this morning and thought I share with you a two-day look at how I journal.

Daily Food Journal

You get the idea even if the journal is hard to read. I PLAN.

I plan – when I have a meal replacement.

I plan – what I’m going to have as a meal replacement.

I plan – my Lean & Green meal that morning or the night before.  I know what I’m having for dinner and for a snack.

Planning  is key. When I get lazy… that’s when I see a gain on the scale. So I’m going to continue to track and encourage you to do the same.

Did you know according to statics those folks who track lose on average 20% more weight than those who don’t.  I like a 20% advantage!  Who wouldn’t?

I’m thankful that I have not been hungry. That’s because I graze all through the day on little meals that are packed with carbs and protein.  I’ve also learned the hard way,  to keep my coffee intake down or the caffeine will rev up my appetite…and that is a killer to live with.

Have a good evening and I’ll check back in tomorrow with hopefully more great results.

Till then please feel free to leave a comment.

Send me an email at Joyce@Blonskij.com
