New Years Eve 1999 do you remember where you were? Who you were with? and What you weighed!YIKES…
My house in Folsom. My brother-in-law, Peter Blonskij and family, Mike and JoAnn Kennison, Hilda, Martin and the Lavergne kids, and my cousin Janet. I must have weighed close to 250 pounds — I wore a size 22. I do remember that, and just gave the outfit I wore that night to a new home.
10 years later… my cousin and I have been on countless weight loss programs.
Me mostly on-and-off of Weight Watchers.
Janet had gastric bypass surgery in 2002 and calls herself a surgery failure, even though she has kept off 30 of her original 50 lbs loss.
Today we are both on Take Shape For Life using the portion controlled meal replacements from Medifast. This evening Janet called me to give me a new grand total:
She has lost 45 lbs on Medifast – for a
Grand TOTAL of 75 POUNDS!
XXX Size 22 and 24’s. We were “big” for our height!

Even with the death of our close friend and all the emotional stress and eating that goes along with this… I did well.
My goal is to drop another 20 pounds in the next two months.
On January 4th – Monday morning I started back up again on program.
Monday – January 4th 2010 my starting weight: 158.5
According to Dr. Oz your waste is a key indicator of your health along with your weight of course. Dr. Oz gave us the formula to gauge your belly fat which is the worst place to carry weight.
Take your height in inches and divide it in half. That number is the largest you want your waist.
Divide your height in half to get the size your waist should be.
I’m 5′3″ which is 63 inches.
Divide 63 inches in half = 31.5
31.5 inches is the ideal size for my waist based on my height.
I measured out at 35.0
I need to take off 3.5 inches off my waist and to do this I need to drop some pounds!
After 8 days on Take Shape For Life/Medifast
I’ve already dropped off
6.1 pounds
Weighting in this morning at 152.4
Yesterday one of my staff said I looked “skinny”. She deserves a raise!
For those of you who need to get off some weight and are waiting for the “sign” … this is it! It’s your time to get that weight off and feel better. Come on and get started – Summer is just around the corner and you can’t hide behind your coat when it get hot out.
So many of us when we lose a loved one will hold on to stuff that reminds us of them. I still have items from my childhood that reminds me of my parents who are both deceased. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. I actually think it’s human nature for us to want to hold on to tangible stuff that belonged to someone we love.
When does the stuff we hold on to start to become a Crutch & a Clutter Issue?
How do we keep their memory alive and not feel the burden and heaviness of the stuff , that may be weighing us down emotionally?
Kelli shared some of her thoughts with us last weekend. I hope you find them helpful and comforting.
I’m a stress eater like so many are. This week has been an emotionally difficult one for me with the sudden death of a very close family friend, Martin Lavergne. As I watched my own behavior and how I was coping with my own loss and grief, I wanted to turn to food (my old friend) for comfort. The old “fat” me would of submerged into the food buffet that has been pouring in since Martin’s death. Several times I eyed those homemade cakes. The cookies were calling my name too. I knew I would just feel guilty and worse after eating them. I already felt bad enough. So I smiled at the cakes and cookies… and kept on going.
The Old "fat" me, Martin & Hilda Lavergne In Vegas
I had an entire day this week where I struggled from wanting to eat. ANYTHING & EVERYTHING. Thank God I was at work and busy, which kept me out of trouble. Not to mention, I only have healthy foods at work and at home. Even if I wanted to eat like a crazy person, the most damage I could do was something green and leafy or fat-free jello… Neither of which I’d consider comfort foods. Cleaning out the bad foods (trigger foods) helped to keep me out of trouble. To be completely honest; those old food triggers did pop in my head a few times, but now I’m in control of my environment.
Diets and Stress don’t get along. I know this. I’m run down from the emotional fatigue and can feel it. Which makes me vunerable to food that’s not going to keep me healthy. Life happens! And it takes its toll. Heck we’re only human after all.
So, I did what I could: I’ve gone to bed super early twice this week and I hit the treadmill for a 20 minute run which really helped. I’ve kept away from the cookies and homemade cakes. I’ll have several healthy snacks with me, so I won’t get hungry, and this will help me stay in control of my food choices.
What also helped was having Kelli Wilson, talk with our Take Shape For Life Group this past weekend on carrying and keeping the stuff after a loved one dies. After watching this short video clip again, it made me realize Martin, and for that matter… all those who I love and have died, are still in my heart. On occasion they are the voices in my head. Not crazy voices, but voices of love and encouragement that I still hold dear to this day and my last day.
Do I hold on to stuff that reminds me of them? Absolutely – Yes I do.
Am I MORE obsessed and focused on their personal possessions and stuff? No. But it did take me some time (years actually) to realize it’s not the stuff. It’s their love and my memories I treasure most.
If you’re grieving the loss of a loved one I hope you take comfort in knowing it’s not the stuff you have in your house…. it’s the person and all those great memories we hold in our heart that keeps them alive and with us always.
God Bless Us All…

I got to thinking about a Dr. Oz Show I watched and it hit me… The 15 minute Rule is exactly what we need when we first decide to get healthy and lose weight. He talked about Day 1 of a Diet and what you must do to be successful at losing weight and the 5 Foods to REMOVE from your home.
Food Clutter is wrecking our healthy!
HERE IS THE LIST OF FOODS YOU MUST GIVE AWAY OR THROW AWAY – TODAY!
1. Sugars
2. Syrups & Sodas
3. White Flour – which includes every and any food frozen or prepared with this.
4. Saturated Fats – check the labels
5. Trans Fats which are also known as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil
Take 15 munutes to clean and wash out your refrigerator today.
Tomorrow evening after dinner take 15 minutes and remove any of the 5 Foods from your pantry.
If a food is on the list of 5 foods to remove bag them to donate or toss them. Either way they are not your friend.
Don’t think about what they cost in dollars. Think about what it will cost you in good health if you contiue to eat foods even the bugs won’t touch!
It’s true. Even insects won’t eat saturated fats – so why would you!
Kelli Wilson’s workshop on The Clutter Breaktrhough is happening January 23, 2010 from 9am-12pm at the Kiwanis Family House 2875 50th Ave, Sacramento. Call to RSVP at 916-765-6104 – The cost is $39

Let me start off by thanking Kelli Wilson for coming over on a holiday weekend and sharing her information on the effects of clutter in all our lives. She did a great job. I even cleaned out two cabinets already! My cousin Janet called from Bakersfield today and said, Kelli inspired her and she cleaned out a drawer that’s been bothering her for months. It worked — Kelli got us up and at it!
I asked Kelli to come speak to us because I have had several Ah Ha Moments while I have been losing my 100 pounds. One of those break through was the correlation between losing the weight and losing the stuff . Both had been holding me back from doing things in my life. The clutter in my home and office, and all those extra pounds, were weighing me down physically, emotionally, mentally and financially.
As an overweight person my fat was keeping me out of the “moment” in many aspects of my life. Until I lost the weight I didn’t realize what I was missing like horse back riding, amusement park rides, not being to snow ski because they don’t make size 24 ski pants and God only know I’d be a danger to myself on a ski slope at that weight.
Holding on to those 100 pounds was my physical clutter, mental clutter, and spiritual clutter. As I shed the weight and started getting rid of large size clothes that didn’t fit. This was very liberating.
The more I lost… the more I tossed. It feels good to let go!
I love being lighter and getting the clutter off my body and out of my closet and so will you.
This week I will be sharing several clips from her presentation that touch on the Spiritual, Physical and Mental aspects of clutter.
The 5 Second Rule again is, it takes less time to do it right now than to do it later.
The 5 Minute Rule – Take 5 each night to be prepared to get out the door in the morning. Take 5 each morning to leave the house in order so you come home to a clutter free space.
My next video post will be: The 15 Minute Rule and gets the family into the mix.

On Vacation in Mexico – Shopping in Cabo December 2009 (new smaller bathing suit)
Did you know Cabo has a Harley Davidson store right next to Ruth Chris Steak House? Yes – Cabo has it all from the funky little stores to the fancy designer stuff. It’s all here.
In the mall just off the marina there is a bathing suit store. If you’ve been to Cabo you know the one I’m talking about. Well as a former size 24 they were off limits to me. Oh I’d still go in and have a look, but they didn’t have anything that would fit my plus size body. Well today was different. I went in to shop!
I am very happy to share with you my new 3 piece bathing suit!
Now shopping is actually getting fun!
The top is an 8 with an underwire built in, and the bottom is a 12. A lot better than a 24! I love the genie pants that match. (medium)
I bought a swim suit that before I could only dream of wearing.
When I got back to the resort after walking and shopping for half a day, I have to tell you… I hit the gym. This is how I’m going to keep my weight in check and build some muscle mass. The “old fat me” would have run down to the pool because it was still happy hour, and order up a couple of high calorie, sugary drinks before the bell rung. The new me…would rather spend that hour happily working out.
I did just over 20 minutes on the treadmill doing an interval of: walk 3 minutes and then jog for 5 minutes, repeat this 3 times. Then I did light weight training for about 40 minutes. This felt good knowing I am making the changes in my life that will promote good health, and keep my weight off for ever!

If you are like me and have said to yourself, "I have to do something"! then you have come to the right place.
As a former fatty - tipping the scales at 255 pounds September of 2006 I joined Weight Watchers and my first year was a success. Down 56 pounds. Then I hit a wall and in the course of the next 18 monts I struggled and only had another 9 pound loss to show for my time, efforts, and money.
May 28, 2009 at 190 pounds I hit the reset button in my life and started a journey that has amazed me, my husband and my entire family. In less than 17 weeks I have dropped 38 pounds!
